Jackie Harrison

Jackie Harrison is Professor of Public Communication at the University of Sheffield, UK and UNESCO Chair on Media Freedom, Journalism Safety and the Issue of Impunity. She researches the civil role of the factual mass media, how it uses the language and vocabulary of civil society to interpret our invariant civil concerns, public controversies and conflict. Currently she examines how factual mass media are a focal point of civil reconciliation/resistance through civil norm building, public monitoring and expressions of cultural/social criticism. Recent work includes: The Civil Power of the News (2019) and The civil norm building role of news journalism in post-civil war settings (2022).
